This is a slim book that explains the ideas invented by the author to manage software projects. It’s a well-written and easy-to-read book that will enthuse some. However, it is difficult to pin down exactly what the “scrum” idea is, other than a collection of anecdotes and extreme energy.
If you are as good, as intelligent and as energetic a manager as the author you could probably make any methodology work, including simple “charisma”. If scrum is anything at all it’s a target rather than a prescription for what you should do. About the only hard recommendation is “build and release in 30 day cycles”, and this is what qualifies it as an “agile” method. I doubt that there will be a long-term legacy from “scrum”, but this is an interesting book that will inspire the capable software project manager.
